Staff
The following coaches and staff members are regulars at our Camps for
Women.
Holly Metcalf
Holly Metcalf, Founder of Row As One, is the camp’s head coach.
Holly puts her 20+ years of experience coaching to work planning drills
and work outs to help individuals increase their technical ability. Her
coaching style revolves around individuals – recognizing where the
rower is in terms of her rowing stroke and how best for that individual
to improve – rather than having a preset idea of the perfect stroke.
This creates the opportunity for each individual to make significant progress
in their own stroke.
Abby Peck
Abby has been a regular at our camps since the beginning. Abby provides
both on the water coaching, usually concentrating on sweep boats, and
weight training. As a certified personal trainer, Abby has an excellent
knowledge of the best strength training exercises for the masters woman
athlete.
Jeanne Friedman
Jeanne has been the head coach of Mount Holyoke Crew since 1991, capturing
four Seven Sisters Championships, one NEWMAC Championship, and numerous
medals at ECAC and New England regional championships. She was a founding
member of Boston University's crew team, where she won Gold twice at the
United States National Championships. Jeanne is also a Level III Certified
United States Rowing Coach and has an MS in exercise physiology from the
University of Washington.

MA. During her tenure as a student-athlete at Mount Holyoke, she was named
an all-conference athlete and served as team captain. Tessa has been coaching
at the Row As One camps for over five years.
Stacey Rippetoe
Stacey started rowing in 1993 at UNH after multiple (5) knee surgeries.
(“What a cool sport that allowed me to be an athlete again!”)
She transferred to Rutgers for whom she competed in the first NCAA women's
rowing championships 1997, placing 4th. There she earned B.S. in Biological
Sciences. She began coaching at Navesink River Rowing, Fair Haven, NJ
in 1995, coaching masters rowers and serving as the head coach. She then

staff for inspiring and encouraging students and providing effective leadership
towards achievement. Now, Stacey is the novice coach at Michigan State
University. Stacey began volunteering at the Row As One camps in 1999
and started the first WeCanRow expansion team in 2002. Stacey is completing
her MS in Kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology. Stacey also
has two fabulous dogs, Rows and Jem who are often seen with her in the
launch.
Jenny Simon
Simon is the Novice Women's Crew Coach at Lewis and Clark College in Portland,
OR. She also serves as the NCAA Intern for the Lewis & Clark athletic
department, working in an administrative role. Prior to Lewis and Clark,
Jenny was a varsity rower at Mt. Holyoke College where she graduated with
a degree in Math. During her summers in college, Jenny worked as an assistant
for Pioneer Head Coach Tessa Spillane in several different community programs.
These programs included Mount Holyoke Community Rowing and Rowing Strong,

and now as camp manager.
